ASMR Interviewed: Daintily Dahlia

Daintily Dahlia is a creator of videos that purposely trigger ASMR, which is described as a pleasant, tingly sensation in the scalp that extend down the back and out through the limbs. You can learn more about ASMR here. You can find Daintily Dahlia’s videos here.

Welcome! Thank you so much for taking the time to talk to me.

It’s truly my pleasure to be speaking with you.

Of course! So how long have you been making videos?

I have been making videos since February 2014.

That’s a good amount of time! What do you think makes you stand out as an ASMRtist?

My voice is deeper than most other women who do ASMR and I think that alone does set me apart, because I am sure there are many people who are more specifically triggered by deep female voices (I am one of those people!) I also have a wide variety of hobbies that I am interested in, and I think that also has some appeal when I create videos specifically related to those items. My programming video, for example, many students and professionals responded positively to. On my crochet focused video, many people told me their stories about their family who crochet, and their own DIY projects! I love connecting with people on this level, and I feel that these hobby-related videos do set me apart slightly.

Your voice is very relaxing actually, I’d have to agree. I was watching your Bible Study video earlier. Would you say that’s another theme people relate to with you?

Yes, I do feel that people relate to this theme. Many people have opened up their hearts to me and have told me their story. I have been able to speak with and discuss topics not often spoken about within the ASMR community, nor even online. Because it is an essential part of my life, and also very important in many other lives, I personally feel that it is one of my major and successful videos, even if not related to view count, because it is one of few ASMR videos regarding such a fundamental part of millions of lives.

That’s beautiful. ASMRtists are an interesting group, in that we do what we do by really connecting with the viewer. I think that played out wonderfully for you with that video.

What are the comment sections like on your videos?

I do love that too! It’s like a conversation, one where I have found some really neat friends and met very genuine people.

Generally, my comments section is wonderful. I very rarely receive negative remarks. (Though, the video regarding my faith was one of my most disliked videos, and many, many people voiced their opinion regarding that.) If I am to be honest, I have the thickest skin and rarely does anything get to me! I truly appreciate the feedback I receive and about 99.5% of it is wonderful. I’m really quite fortunate!

A thick skin will help a lot being in the public eye of the internet, although I wish it needn’t be so. I noticed you’ve done a speedpainting tutorial video — is that something you’ve ever considered pursuing?

This is very true.

Oh, I really REALLY love doing speed paintings. When YouTube was first getting big, I tried making a few (when I was really young!) however never actually published any. Art has always been a huge hobby and a passion of mine. I actually think, if I have time, this will be a new direction for my channel. It’s been a dream of mine to do speed painting videos for a long while! Thank you for noting this. As an ASMR creator, I realize there are about a million things I would love to explore, this being just one!

That’s brilliant! I’m sure there are many of our readers and your viewers who would really enjoy seeing that from you. Last question: How would you say ASMR has impacted your life?

ASMR has played a huge role in my life. I have met some of the most amazing people over the past two years. I feel that I have had the best opportunity to give back to people online. I have established strong bonds with SO many people and am forever grateful for that opportunity. Just the people alone have impacted my life to this point.

On the other hand, listening to ASMR. I don’t think many people realize, even in my real life, that I am actually really a Type-A person! Needless to say, life doesn’t always hand me lemonade and my personality doesn’t like that. 🙂 ASMR has been a calm constant in my life over the past 4 years I have been listening to it. I know that coming home to relax, I have any number of videos made by excellent people who don’t even realize how much they help me stay sane in such an insane world.

The ASMR community really is unique, and I hope it continues to create friendships and support for all involved.

And there we have it. Thank you for taking time to do this interview.

Thank you so much for this opportunity.
