ASMR Interviewed: WhisperAudios ASMR

WhisperAudios ASMR is a creator of videos that purposely trigger ASMR, which is described as a pleasant, tingly sensation in the scalp that extends down the back and out through the limbs. You can learn more about ASMR here. You can find WhisperAudios ASMR’s videos here.

WhisperAudios ASMR – AKA Charlette – very kindly found some time in her very busy schedule to answer some questions and give us a bit of insight into her views on ASMR, her mistaken identity and how she thinks schools can improve!

Hi there Charlette! Perhaps you could introduce yourself to everyone…..

Hello? Is there anyone out there?

Oh hey! Howdy! My name is Charlette and I am just a normal person, just like you! ASMR is a huge part of my life and I am a self-confessed addict! It has helped me de-stress, relax and fall asleep since 2011!

How many interviews have you done before?

I have done quite a few interviews before, which is awesome! Who knew people would want to talk to me?! My fondest interview was for the Guardian Newspaper here in the UK. The team were amazing and we all shared common interests. I still stay in touch with them even now! This is the link to the interview.

Are there any questions that you are bored of already?

Are you related to Emma WhispersRed….

Is your day to day voice different from your ASMR voice and if so how?

Definitely! I think people would get annoyed with me if I spoke to them in a whisper all day! I am a very upbeat and energetic person. So I find ASMR is the perfect remedy for me to just ‘slow down’ now and then!

Do your friends and family know much about the ASMR world? What do they think about the videos you create?

I have introduced my family to ASMR very gradually! And only after my channel started to get some form of recognition. They don’t really understand it too much, but they get the general principles behind it. I think I am the only one in my family who experiences it! My friends however know exactly what it is and most of them experience it too! They even watch the videos on my channel! They always try and get me to “ASMR” them when we meet up!

What’s your vision for the future of your involvement in ASMR?

ASMR is my life. It will always be a part of me. I want to be as actively involved in the community as I can physically be, which is often hard with a busy schedule and family obligations.

You have created a broad range of genres of videos – similar to your own choice of favourite DVDs! – but do you have a favourite genre of videos that you have created?

An artist never likes their own work! So I don’t have a favourite genre of video really. I like creating them all equally. Whatever mood takes me, that’s the video I create.

What do you think would be a valuable development to the ASMR Community?

Celebrity endorsement. Nowadays everyone is incredibly influenced by the media and so called ‘celebrities’. This, I think, is the gateway into global acceptance of ASMR. If a celebrity positively credits it of course, then the ‘mainstream audience’ will follow.

Which has been your favourite movie that you’ve created?

I really loved creating the Vampire Spray Tan video. Even though it took me a good couple of months planning, testing and recording. The end result was something that I was really proud of.

What do you get out of creating this content? Why do you do it?

I work in the TV & Film industry so I guess my love for creating ‘movies’ is something I am already passionate about. The best thing however for me, is reading the comments and emails from my viewers who have overcome personal struggles because they watch my videos. There is nothing better than hearing that you have brightened up someone’s day!

What was the motivator between you learning about ASMR and deciding to create your own content?

Again it was because I love filmmaking! I watched a few ASMR videos and I thought “I have a camera, I have a microphone, I have a T-Rex….oh wait….wrong film..” – and I thought why not give it a go?!

With the videos where you are modeling some clothing, you seem very comfortable – do you do much modeling work or is it more of a natural talent?

Awh that’s very nice of you! Well, if I am honest, I have been modelling since I was 16! Its just something that I love doing in my spare time and have been very lucky to have worked with some amazing photographers, makeup artists and stylists. I always like to combine my passions together!

Have you ever had any ideas for videos that either didn’t end up working as you’d imagined?

Oh yes! I think 40% of the videos that I have recorded have ended up in the bin!

Besides family and friends and your cat, what makes you smile?

Haha! Seriously though, I am a happy person in general, so everything makes me happy! Answering these questions for you and to be given an opportunity to share my thoughts is something to be immensely happy about. Not a lot of people get the opportunities I have been blessed with and I am so thankful and happy to wake up every morning and do what I love doing.

How has your life changed since developing a strong following for your videos?

All my free time has gone! Its quite a struggle sometimes, as not only do you have to struggle with your ‘everyday life’ you have to be consistent with filming schedules, planning and editing. Then there is social media, answering emails etc. Its a lot of work which I don’t think many people realise. On the positive side of things though, I have found friends through ASMR which are now a huge part of my life and couldn’t live without! You know who you are!

What is the one thing that should be taught in school that isn’t already?

LIFE SKILLS! Who the hell needs algebra when you crash into adulthood thinking “How the hell did I end up here?” and you have to suddenly learn how to do your tax return, find the best mortgage, and even how to feed yourself properly! Yeah the Internet is great for all those things, but I am sure many quarter-life crises would be averted if these things would have been taught in school!

It really is very kind of you to be so generous with your time and I’m sure everyone will love reading your thoughts and answers.
